Why Is a BMW Called a Beamer?

A BMW is referred to as a beamer because the term originated when BMW solely produced bikes. However, the majority of people do not recognise that beamer is an inappropriate term for the automobile, as it should be bimmer.

BMW began manufacturing motorcycles. BSA Bikes was BMW’s greatest rival on the racing circuit. The initials proved difficult to pronounce, especially because they were so close together, so track enthusiasts created a slang term for them. BMWs were referred to as beamers, whilst BSAs were known as beesers. When the first BMW vehicles were released, those same enthusiasts determined that the car couldn’t have the same slang as the motorcycle, so bimmer was chosen instead of beamer to distinguish between the two. Eventually, however, people began using beamer to refer to both.
