Why Does Eating Ice Cream Make You Cough?

Due to the abrupt irritation of the throat and airways, ice cream can cause a person to cough. It can also be caused by allergies and inhaling ice cream’s cold air without giving the body enough time to acclimate to the shift in temperature.

Several causes can contribute to coughing after eating in general. Certain food allergies might induce reactions, such as coughing. Spicy and fatty foods, as well as cold foods, might provoke coughing-inducing immunological reactions. Following a meal, gastroesophageal reflux disease can also induce coughing and heartburn.

As a result of eating, infections in the larynx or oesophagus might induce coughing. Dysphagia can make it difficult to swallow, resulting in food becoming lodged in the throat and causing choking. Certain foods containing irritating chemicals can induce coughing in asthmatics.
