Kyle Petty, a retired great NASCAR race car driver and co-host of “NASCAR America,” and his wife Pattie divorced in 2012, partly owing to the stress caused by the death of their 19-year-old son Adam in 2000. Pattie Petty stated that they have no plans to divorce.
The Pettys wed on February 4, 1979, a few days before Kyle became the youngest driver ever to win the Talladega 500 at age 19. Austin Kemp, born in 1982, and Montgomery Lee, born in 1985, are the couple’s two other adult children. Pattie announced in 2011 that she has Parkinson’s disease. Kyle is the son of Richard Petty, the seven-time winner of the Daytona 500, and the grandson of Lee Petty, the three-time champion of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
