The Nintendo DS version of Pokémon Platinum, which is an improved version of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, came out in 2008, but the game is still popular today.
There are a lot of Hidden Machines (HMs) in Pokémon Platinum. These are used to teach Pokémon moves that they might not learn as they level up. The move HM03 Surf, which is best for water-type Pokémon, is one of the hardest to find.
In short, the player can get HM03 Surf in Celestic Town after beating Cyrus, the boss of the Galactic region. Inside the ruins, Cynthia’s grandmother will give it to the player.
Regarding HM Surf
The Pokémon Database says that from generation 1 to generation 5, Surf has a base damage of 95. If your opponent is using Dive at the same time, it will do twice as much damage.
The fact that Surf can hit both opponents in double battles is a benefit. In Sun and Moon, Pokémon with Waterium Z can change Surf into Hydro Boost when they have it. The base damage of this improved move is 175.
The Pokémon Database also says that Surf can be used to cross water outside of the battle field. Surfing lets players find wild Pokémon and, starting with generation three, fish.
What else does Celestic Town have?
Celestic Town is one of the Sinnoh region’s smallest areas. Still, it is full of things that help a player’s Pokémon get stronger or are just fun to have. Bulmapedia says that in Celestic Town, you can find an Analog Watch, a Dragon Fang, and a King’s Rock.
In the southwest part of town, a Black Belt trainer gives the player an analogue watch. The Dragon Fang makes dragon-type moves more powerful. Behind the Pokémon Center is where you can find it.
Poliwhirl and Slowpoke can grow and change at the King’s Rock. It can also be used by a Pokémon to make an opponent flinch. In the Celestic Ruins, the item is on a west-facing ledge.
How to get rid of HMs from Pokémon Platinum
Players can go to the Move Deleter if they want to take Surf or any other move off their Pokémon’s list of moves. Psypoke says that they can be found in a house just south of the Pokémon Center in Canalave City in Pokémon Platinum.
People who want to learn moves they forgot or gave up can go to a house in Pastoria City that is on the water. If the player gives the Move Rememberer a Heart Scale, it will bring back a Pokémon’s move.
Hydro Pump vs. Surf
The question of whether Hydro Pump or Surf is the best move for your Pokémon is still being talked about. Each has good points and bad points. Bulbapedia says that Surf does less base damage than Hydro Pump. But Surf is always right, while Hydro Pump is only right 80 percent of the time.
Surf gets 15 Power Points (PPs), while Hydro Pump only gets 5. This means that Surf is less likely to run out than Hydro Pump during a battle.
The other HMs in Platinum
In Pokémon Platinum, there are a few HMs that a player can choose to teach their Pokémon.
For example, the only way to get the flying-type move HM05 Defog is to beat Gym Leader Fantina. According to the Pokémon Wiki, the move clears the battlefield of fog. It also cancels out the effects of moves that help you avoid getting hit.
