Where Does the Date Go on a Business Letter?

The date is typed two inches beneath the top of a business letter. The date is either justified to the left or centred in the middle of the page.

If the sender’s address is included in the letter’s body rather than on the letterhead, the date should appear one line below the address. The format for the date in U.S. business correspondence is the month, followed by the day, and then the year. The date printed on the letter indicates the letter’s completion, not the writer’s start date.
