When Should the CO2 Cylinder in an Inflatable PFD Be Replaced?

An auto-inflating personal flotation device’s CO2 cartridge needs to be replaced after being punctured. When the wearer enters the water, it automatically inflates, causing this to occur. When the PDF is inflated manually with the lever, the cartridge is also pierced.

Additionally, you can inflate this PDF by breathing into the oral inflator tube. The CO2 cartridge is not punctured, though.

When using an inflatable PDF, a safety inspection should be carried out. The cartridge is removed, and the PDF is orally inflated to make sure there are no leaks in the vest itself. To make sure the cartridge is brand-new, it is examined. The mechanism is checked once it has been replaced to make sure it is screwed in firmly and is not leaking.
