When Finch Eggs Hatch, How Long Do They Take?

Finch eggs need 12 to 14 days to hatch after being placed. During this phase, the female and male birds alternate resting on the eggs to keep them warm.

Hatchling finches stay in the nest for 20 to 25 days after hatching before flying away (learning to fly). The parents feed the fledged chicks until they reach the age of six weeks. The female lays another clutch of eggs after the hatchlings have fledged the nest, and the parents begin the incubation process all over again. It’s not unusual for hatchlings that have already exited the nest to assist in the caring of fresh hatchlings from the next clutch of eggs.
