What Preys on Cheetahs?

Cheetahs are occasionally attacked by larger predators like lions, hyenas, and leopards. This is a rare occurrence in adult cheetahs, but the fatality rate for cheetah kittens is about 90%.

The cheetah is disadvantaged by fierce competition against more powerful predators; this is owing to the cheetah’s body shape, which is designed for speed rather than combat with the larger, more muscular predators of the African plains. Land development of huge predators’ natural habitat is fast growing, causing big cats to be displaced into unusual settings. Cheetahs have a hard time locating food in these new, uncharted territories. They are driven onto human-occupied regions by this difficulty, where they are frequently murdered for eating cattle.
