The affluent Koch brothers are well-known for their substantial contributions to politicians, universities, and organisations that reflect their fiscally conservative ideas. The Koch brothers self-identify as Libertarians and support an unrestricted free market economy. Numerous Catholics, including Pope Francis, have asserted that this form of excessive capitalism is incompatible with Catholic doctrine. In light of this, many believe that the church should not accept substantial donations from the Koch brothers.
