What Is the Nursery Rhyme About Lizzie Borden?

According to History.com, the rhyme about Lizzie Borden and the killing of her parents goes, “Lizzie Borden took an axe, And gave her mother forty whacks; When she realised what she had done, She gave her father forty-one.”

The remains of Lizzie Borden’s parents were discovered on August 4, 1892, at their Fall River, Massachusetts, residence. A hatchet was used to sever the bodies of Andrew and Abby Borden.

Due to her pre-murder axe purchase and post-murder dress burning, Lizzie was made the top suspect. Lizzie was cleared of killing her parents because there was insufficient proof. There were no other suspects put on trial for the killings.
