The sorority Alpha Phi is affiliated with the acronym “AOE,” which stands for “Alethia Orno Eteronis.” Literally, the phrase translates to “Truth, Honor, Forever.”
Before a pledge is officially initiated into the sorority, the meaning of the acronym is meant to remain a secret. After learning it, they are forbidden from disclosing it to outside parties. In February of 2012, there was a dispute when the definition was released on Wikipedia and supported by a book authored by a sorority pledge. Sorority members urged the removal of the reference. Wikipedia declined, explaining that it was not bound by any fraternity’s rules or norms and that the content was of general interest.
