What Is the Dimetapp Weight Dosage?

According to Beverly Hills Pediatrics, the recommended Dimetapp dosage by weight is 1/2 teaspoon every six hours for children weighing 12 to 17 pounds and 1 teaspoon every six hours for children weighing 18 to 30 pounds. The dosage is 1.5 teaspoons every six hours for a youngster weighing between 31 and 44 pounds.

Children who weigh 45 pounds or more and are normally between the ages of 6 and 12 should take 2 teaspoons every six hours. Beverly Hills Pediatrics points out that although weight-based dosages for paediatric medications don’t always correspond to age-based dosages, it is still the preferred unit of measurement.

Children should wait until they are at least 4 years old to use cold and cough drugs, according to paediatricians. Pfizer states that Dimetapp is only for kids who are at least 6 years old.
