What Is the Dimetapp Dosage by Weight?

According to Beverly Hills Pediatrics, the Dimetapp dosage by weight for a 12- to 17-pound child is 1/2 teaspoon every six hours, while an 18- to 30-pound child should have 1 teaspoon every six hours. The dosage for a youngster weighing between 31 and 44 pounds is 1.5 tablespoons every six hours.

Children who weigh 45 pounds or more and are between the ages of 6 and 12 should receive two teaspoons every six hours. Beverly Hills Pediatrics emphasises that weight-based paediatric drug dosages do not necessarily correspond to age-based dosages, but that dosage by weight is the preferred standard of measuring. Before administering cold and cough drugs, paediatricians may recommend that children be at least 4 years old. According to Pfizer, Dimetapp is for children who are at least 6 years old.
