What Is the Area Covered by a Yard of Sand?

At a depth of 1 to 2 inches, one cubic yard of sand covers approximately 120 to 150 square feet. Sand weights between 2,000 and 3,000 pounds per yard, or around 1 1/2 tonnes. A tonne of sand will cover around 80 to 100 square feet.

1 yard broad, 1 yard long, and 1 yard high equals 1 cubic yard of sand. The weight and volume of sand changes depending on whether it is wet or dry at the time of measurement. 1 cubic yard of sand takes about nine medium-sized wheelbarrows to transport. The bed of a large pickup truck can fit a cubic yard of sand.
