In mathematics, modal value refers to the mode, which is the most frequent number in a data set. In the data set 1, 2, 2, 3, for instance, the modal value is 2 because it is the most frequent number.
The mode is one of the most used techniques to characterise a data set. When analysing huge data sets, it is often advantageous to determine the mean, mode, and median to quickly obtain insight into the distribution of the numbers. The mean is the average of the data set, whereas the median is the number in the middle when sorted from smallest to greatest.
