What Does 10kp Mean on a Gold Ring?

KP is an abbreviation for karat plumb. These letters signify that the ring is guaranteed to contain gold with a purity grade equal to or higher than the amount stamped, which in this case is 10 karats.

The additional letter is utilised because many markets allow jewellers a “wiggle area” of up to 0.5 karats when marking purity standards. This means that a ring tagged 10k may only be 9.5k in terms of purity. The KP mark signifies that a product has a higher purity level than other gold products that merely bear the karat designation.
