# What Device Is Applied to Measure Density?

Hydrometers, aerometers, pycnometers, density kits, and digital density metres are a few examples of frequently used density measurement tools. The mathematical formula d = m/v, where “d” stands for density, “m” stands for mass, and “v” stands for the object’s volume, can be used to manually calculate an object’s density by dividing its mass by its volume.

The usual definition of matter is based on the characteristic rest mass and the volume, or area, that it occupys. Density is another physical characteristic that clearly distinguishes any kind of material, whether it be solid, liquid, or gas.

The density of an object refers to how tightly packed or widely dispersed the constituent particles of a thing are. The densities of rocks and metals are around 3 g/cm3 and 7 g/cm3, respectively. Of the three phases of matter, gases are the least dense.

Several tools can be used to measure density. The density of a liquid is measured with a hydrometer in relation to water, which has a density of 1 g/cm3. To determine the density of the sample liquid, hydrometers are partially submerged in it.

Baume hydrometers, API hydrometers, alcohol-proof hydrometers, and draught survey hydrometers are a few examples of hydrometer kinds. An aerometer calculates the density of gases, including air.

A glass beaker with a predetermined volume is used in a pycnometer to determine a liquid’s density. While a digital density metre calculates density based on frequencies, a density kit includes a balance.
