What Are the Last Rites Prayer’s Words?

The words to the prayer for Last Rites, or as it is currently known, the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, are: “May the Lord, in his love and mercy, help you with the grace of the Holy Spirit via this holy anointing. May you be saved and raised up by the Lord who sets you free from sin.

One element of the rite for the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick is prayer. After placing hands on the sick person and applying blessed olive or other oil, the priest or eucharistic minister performs the prayer.

The person has the chance to confess before to the recitation of the prayer and the anointing. The act of contrition or confession is followed, if possible, by reciting the Apostle’s Creed. The Lord’s Prayer is then recited by the priest or eucharistic minister.

The Lord’s Prayer is recited before the person partakes of communion. The following is recited by the priest or eucharistic minister: “This is the Lamb of God who takes away the sins of the world. Those who are invited to his dinner are happy.

The person replies, “Lord, I am not worthy to receive you, but just say the word and I shall be healed,” if they are able to. The priest or eucharistic minister then presents the Body of Christ and prays for the person’s safety.

The prayer and blessing bring the sacrament to a close.
