Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and Oklahoma are all in the American Southwest. Most of the time, these states have semi-arid or arid climates. Even though the weather is the same all over the area, the geography is very different. There are mountains, plateaus, deserts, and canyons.

In the Southwest, there are lots of open spaces and only a few cities. Some of the most common plants and animals in the area are cacti, sagebrush, yucca plants, coyotes, bobcats, wolves, jackrabbits, elk, and bison. This area has some of the most beautiful scenery in the country. For example, the Grand Canyon is a popular place for tourists to visit. Every year, more than 5 million people go there. This big crack in the crust of the Earth is 277 miles long and between 4,000 and 6,000 feet deep. Monument Valley is another natural wonder. It is on the border between Arizona and Utah and has a lot of big sandstone formations.

There are a few cities in the area with a lot of people, like Albuquerque, New Mexico, El Paso, Texas, and Phoenix, Arizona. In the area, there are a lot of people who speak Spanish. Native Americans, on the other hand, have lived in the Southwest for a long time. Several tribes, including the Utes, Navajos, Hopis, Apaches, and Comanches, used to live in this wide-open area.
