What Animal Represents Mexico as a Country?

Mexico has a number of animal species. The national animal of Mexico is the jaguar; its national bird is the golden eagle; its national canine is the xoloitzcuintli; and its national reptile is the green turtle.

In addition to this, Mexico also recognises the grasshopper as its national arthropod and the vaquita as its national marine animal. The word “vaquita” is Spanish for “small cow” and refers to a fairly rare kind of porpoise.

In addition to being the country’s emblem, the grasshopper is also a local delicacy in places like Mexico City and Oaxaca. At neighbourhood markets and soccer matches, grasshoppers are a common snack.
