The Largest Lobster Ever Recorded Was How Big?

The largest documented lobster was captured in 1977 and weighed 44 pounds, 6 ounces. It was caught from the waters off the coast of Nova Scotia, and according to the Guinness Book of World Records, it had a length of 3 feet, 5 inches from the tip of its greatest claw to the end of its tail fan.

In 2012, a 27-pound lobster found off the Maine coast grabbed headlines. Its claws, according to a Department of Marine Resources official from Maine, are large enough to shatter an arm.

There are many places where it is against the law for fishermen to keep exceptionally huge lobsters. Lobsters that measure more than 5 inches from the eye to the tip of the tail must be returned to the wild in Maine.
