The Equal Sign Bumper Sticker: What Does It Mean?

The Human Rights Campaign is represented by equal sign bumper stickers. This group works to advance justice and equal rights for people who identify as gay, lesbian, bisexual, or transgender.

The Human Rights Campaign (HRC) chose the symbol of a yellow equal sign inside a blue square as part of a branding initiative to coincide with the organization’s reorganisation in 1995.

The campaign, which was established in 1980 as a fund to aid fairness-minded congressional candidates, expanded its lobbying and political action committee to include a Workplace Project and a Family Project.

The HRC is currently the biggest civil rights organisation striving to achieve equality for GLBT Americans, with over 1.5 million members and supporters.
