Is Clear Considered a Color?

Transparent or clear is not considered a colour. It is an entirely different visual quality. A physical object’s colour is determined by the light that is reflected, absorbed, or emitted by it, whereas translucent matter allows light to flow through it without reflecting or emitting light. Therefore, it is colourless.

When observing a transparent item, the object takes on the hue of whatever is behind it, relative to the observer. Transparent substances include glass, air, and water. Semitransparent or translucent objects have their own colour because a large percentage of light is reflected rather than passing through.
