How Much Does a Garbage Truck Weigh?

A typical large garbage truck weights around 64,000 pounds, or 32 short tonnes, according to Titan Recycle and Trash. Around 20 tonnes of weight makes even the smallest vehicles wear on the quality of the roads they travel on.

The systems used by modern garbage trucks to pick up, store, and dump the garbage they are designed to carry account for the majority of their mass. Smaller garbage trucks are just modified pickups with a rubbish carriage on the back. This reduces the vehicle’s overall weight by requiring the driver to lift and dump each can individually.
