Wet mulch can weigh up to 1,000 pounds per cubic yard, however dry mulch might weigh as little as 400 pounds per cubic yard. In most cases, the best source for a weight estimate of the materials is the provider.
One cubic yard, or 27 cubic inches, of mulch or other debris will fill a 3-foot-by-3-foot cube. Each cubic yard of mulch, when spread, covers 100 square feet at a depth of 3 inches. Depending on the weight of the mulch and the truck’s weight rating, a full-size pickup truck can transport two to three yards of mulch per trip.
