Two teaspoons of ground coffee per six ounces of water is the normal amount of coffee used in a pot. Use around 24 tablespoons or 1.5 cup of ground coffee for an average pot that makes 12 6-ounce cups.
The number of scoops needed is determined by the amount of water in the coffee pot and the size of the scoop. The scoop that comes with most coffee makers measures one tablespoon.
Depending on personal preferences, the amount of coffee required for a pot can also vary. If you want a strong coffee, use 3 teaspoons of coffee per six ounces of water (36 tablespoons or a little over 2 cups per pot). Use only 1 tablespoon of ground coffee per six ounces of water (12 tablespoons or 3/4-cup per pot) for a less bitter coffee.
