How Many Tons Does a Car Weigh?

The average car in the United States weighs only 4,000 pounds, or two tonnes. This is the average price of all mass-produced cars in the US.

Most small sedans that are good on gas, like a Toyota Camry or Subaru Impreza, weigh about 3,100 pounds (1.55 tons). Larger luxury sedans, like the BMW 740i, weigh more than the average, which is 4,300 pounds (2.25 tons). A lot of SUVs and trucks can carry up to 3 tonnes. On the other end of the spectrum are cars like the Honda Civic and Smart Fortwo, which barely tip the scale at 1.3 and 0.9 tonnes, respectively.
