Summer break can range from six to fourteen weeks, or 42 to 98 days, depending on the school district. According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the average length of an instructional school year is 180,4 days.
Depending on the region of the United States in which a school is located, summer break durations can vary. Most schools in the northern states observe summer vacation from early June to early September, but schools in the southern states dismiss students in late May and return in late August. Nearly all schools provide students with a partial week off in November to observe Thanksgiving, followed by a week or sometimes two weeks off in December for the Christmas holiday. Typically, fall and spring breaks are also observed.
