The amount of water in mulch affects how much it weighs. Dry mulch can weigh as little as 400 pounds per cubic yard, while wet mulch can weigh up to 1,000 pounds per cubic yard. Most of the time, the best place to get an idea of how much the materials weigh is from the supplier.
One cubic yard, or 27 cubic inches, is enough mulch or other material to fill a cube with 3 feet on each side. Each cubic yard of mulch covers 100 square feet and is 3 inches thick when it is spread out. Depending on how heavy the mulch is and how much the truck can carry, a full-sized pickup truck can carry between 2 and 3 yards of mulch in one trip.
