How Far Is 200 Meters on a Track?

On a typical track, 200 metres represents nearly half of a complete lap. As most organisations adopt metric measurements on conventional tracks, the 200-meter dash is a popular track event at all levels of competition.

Runners in a 200-meter race should provide an all-out effort for the duration of the event, as it is very short and there is no need to pace oneself. Before sprinting across the finish line, the runner should begin to concentrate on thrusting his arms down and back and pushing hard off the ground at the halfway point of the race.
