In 2012, Applebee’s discontinued the Golden Apple card. The Golden Apple card was a senior discount programme offered only to older citizens by the restaurant. Despite the fact that Applebees no longer distributes the Golden Apple card, some locations continue to give discounts to older citizens with AARP cards.
Several additional restaurant brands continue to provide senior discounts. Outback Steakhouse provides AARP members a 15 percent discount on their whole bill, excluding alcoholic beverages, when they display their membership card. Carabba’s Italian Grill provides a 20% discount on the whole bill. Both Chili’s and IHOP give 10% discounts.
Although not all restaurants provide senior discounts, it is not uncommon for a senior-friendly menu to be offered. On these menus, entrees are typically decreased in size and provided at discounted prices. In addition to sit-down establishments, numerous fast food chains provide senior citizens with eating discounts or reduced-price menu alternatives.
Membership in AARP is open to those aged 50 and older, while certain restaurants restrict discounts for people aged 55 and older. Membership in AARP is offered for a cost. In addition to earning discounts at restaurants, members can receive savings on travel and a variety of goods and services.
