Mix together 4 tablespoons of Worcestershire sauce and 1 tablespoon of water. This is the same as 1/2 cup of soy sauce. Both Worcestershire sauce and soy sauce have strong, tangy flavours, so they can be used in place of each other in a pinch.
If you can’t eat some of the ingredients because you have an allergy, it’s easy to make your own Worcestershire sauce. Use this version you made yourself instead of the one you bought: In a blender, mix together 1/2 cup of apple cider vinegar, 2 tablespoons of Thai fish sauce, 2 tablespoons of honey, 1 tablespoon of molasses, the juice of one lime, 1/2 teaspoon of ground cloves, 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon of garlic, and 1/4 teaspoon of chilli powder. Keep this liquid in the fridge in a container with a lid.
Putting together a few common ingredients is another easy way to make a low-sodium soy sauce substitute. Boil 1 1/2 cups of water and mix in 3 tablespoons of beef bouillon granules. Add 1/4 cup plus 1 teaspoon of cider vinegar, 2 tablespoons of sesame oil, 1 tablespoon of dark molasses, and a pinch of pepper.
Mix the ingredients well, and then put the fake soy sauce in a jar with a tight-fitting lid. This should be put in the fridge. Before you use the sauce, give the mixture a shake.
