The size of prison cells that house multiple inmates varies widely by state and facility. For instance, Texas prison guidelines mandate a minimum floor space of 40 square feet for one person and 18 square feet for each additional inmate, up to a maximum of 24. Each inmate must have a minimum of 24 inches of seating space in this area. Additionally, the room should have at least one toilet and one water fountain.
