Pluto did not explode. This is one of the myths that have arisen since the International Astronomical Union categorised Pluto as a dwarf planet in accordance with current labelling standards. Schools have adapted by teaching children that there are only eight planets in the solar system, as opposed to the previously taught nine.
The 2006 reclassification rendered Pluto too tiny to qualify as a planet. Prior to 2006, any massive solar-orbiting celestial body was considered a planet. Even though Pluto still fits this criterion, it also carries planetesimals within its orbit. None of the remaining eight planets in the solar system do.
