Rahaman “Rudy” Ali is the older brother of Muhammad Ali. Two years older than his well-known sibling, Rahaman Ali was also a professional boxer.
They were born in Louisville, Kentucky. Muhammad’s birth name was Cassius Marcellous Clay, whereas Rahaman’s was Rudolph Valentino Clay. When the brothers joined the Black Muslims Ministry, they adopted traditional Muslim names. Muhammad and Rahaman both entered the amateur world of boxing at a young age and went on to compete professionally, although Muhammad’s professional career brought him to the Olympics. Rahaman Ali resigned from boxing in 1972 and remains close to his Parkinson’s disease-stricken brother.
